GWO BTT Mechanical Module (BTTM)

from 500 EUR

Course duration: 1 day

The GWO BTT Mechanical Module course is the absolute foundation for every future wind technician. The training comprehensively and accessibly introduces the world of industrial mechanics. It teaches how a turbine is built from a mechanical perspective, how to correctly use hand and measuring tools, and raises awareness of what safe work entails in the vicinity of heavy, rotating masses.

Requirements:

  • valid identity document (ID card/passport/mObywatel)

  • possession of an active WINDA (Wind Industry Database) ID

The course price includes:

  • WINDA system registration fee

  • lunch

  • coffee / tea

  • free parking

Additional fees:

  • none

Certificate validity:

  • indefinite

Course program

The program combines the basics of mechanics and materials science with rigorous work procedures:

  • Main turbine components – discussion of the design and operating principle of key mechanical systems: the main gearbox, nacelle yaw system, blade pitch system, and braking systems.

  • Bolted connections – understanding the fundamental difference between torque and tension. Types of bolts, nuts, and washers used in turbines and the consequences of their incorrect assembly.

  • Tools and measurements – design, correct calibration, and safe use of measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and feeler gauges. Safe use of torque wrenches (manual and hydraulic).

  • Lubrication and cooling – the role of oils and greases in maintaining the efficiency of bearings and gearboxes. Methods of correct application and chemical hazards associated with operating fluids.

  • Mechanical hazards – identification of risks such as entanglement by moving parts, impacts, and the principles of safely locking mechanisms (LOTO) before starting maintenance work.

What will you learn?

By participating in this training, you will acquire competencies that allow you to:

  • Fully safely and consciously use specialized hand and torque tools, minimizing the risk of injuries and equipment damage.

  • Conduct precise mechanical measurements (e.g., brake disc runout or bearing clearances) using professional instruments.

  • Correctly diagnose basic mechanical problems based on visual inspection (e.g., oil leaks, thread damage).

  • Understand how your physical work affects the durability and safety of the entire wind turbine structure.

What does the training look like?

The training focuses on direct contact with equipment and developing muscle memory:

  • Theoretical introduction: explanation of physical phenomena acting on the turbine using clear diagrams and models.

  • Mechanical workshops: the vast majority of the course is workshop practice. Participants physically assemble and disassemble models of mechanical systems, calibrate torque wrenches, practice applying locks to moving parts, and perform precise measurements with feeler gauges.

Confirmation of course completion

Passing the module relies on the continuous assessment of your practical skills and engagement during the workshops, supported by a final theoretical test. Upon successful completion of the classes, you receive the GWO BTT Mechanical Module (BTTM) certificate.

Where does the training take place, and is there parking?

The training takes place in Gdynia at 13A Polska Street. Free parking is located at 6 Chrzanowskiego Street. The barrier code is provided by the secretariat staff upon confirmation of the course.
