GWO Fire Awareness – Refresher

from 220 EUR

Course duration: 0.5 days

The GWO Fire Awareness Refresher training aims to update, consolidate, and test knowledge in the field of fire prevention and responding to danger in the specific, confined environment of a wind turbine. The main objective of the course is to eliminate detrimental professional routine, remind participants of rarely used (fortunately) emergency procedures, and re-practice the physical operation of fire-fighting equipment, which drastically increases the safety of the entire service crew.

Requirements:

  • valid identity document (ID card/passport/mObywatel)

  • possession of a current (still valid) GWO FAW certificate (and an active WINDA ID profile)

  • work clothing, work gloves, safety footwear

The course price includes:

  • WINDA system registration fee

  • coffee / tea

  • free parking

Additional fees:

  • none

Certificate validity:

  • 2 years

Course program

The program is extremely condensed and focuses on a quick review and intensive practice:

  • Knowledge update and exchange of experiences – review of potential changes in GWO regulations, identification of new hazards based on the latest industry incidents, and re-discussion of the “fire triangle” (causes and development of a fire).

  • Prevention and detection – consolidation of ignition prevention procedures during daily work (e.g., when using flammable materials and electrical installations) as well as smoke detection procedures and responding to alarms.

  • Evacuation – planning and safely conducting evacuation from smoke-filled zones with limited visibility.

  • Fire-fighting equipment – re-discussion of the properties and principles of operation of individual types of fire extinguishers (CO2, powder, water and foam) and a fire blanket.

What will you learn and remember?

By participating in this refresher module, you will restore your readiness to:

  • Correctly and fully instinctively use the appropriate fire extinguisher depending on the source of the fire.

  • Calmly and accurately assess the situation: making decisions about attempting to extinguish the fire in its initial phase or ordering an immediate evacuation when the fire gets out of control.

  • Properly apply good preventive practices in daily maintenance work.

What does the training look like?

The training places the main emphasis on recalling muscle memory and physical realism:

  • Theoretical part: short workshop sessions aimed at discussion and verification of the knowledge acquired two years earlier.

  • Training at the fire training ground: the essential, key part of the refresher. Trainees in work gear approach controlled fire sources, physically unpinning and using fire extinguishers to suppress real fire, and also undergo an evacuation simulation in a smoke-filled environment.

Confirmation of course completion

Participant assessment is conducted through systematic monitoring of their knowledge and behavior at the fire training ground. Upon successful completion of the exercises, the participant receives a renewed GWO Fire Awareness Refresher certificate. The document and the entry into the global WINDA database extend your qualifications to work on wind turbines for another 24 months.

Where does the training take place, and is there parking?

Attendance confirmation takes place in Gdynia at 13A Polska Street. Free parking is located at 6 Chrzanowskiego Street. The barrier code is provided by the secretariat staff upon confirmation of the course.

The training takes place in Gdynia at 13 Wiśniewskiego Street – where there is also free parking.
