Course description

The GWO Basic Technical Training (5 modules) is a training course aimed at people who want to improve their technical qualifications.

Electrical module – the training covers topics related to the hazards associated with working with electricity. Technicians gain knowledge of the basics of electricity, the functions and meaning of symbols of electrical components, the functions of various types of sensors. Technicians acquire the skills to interpret a simple electrical diagram and demonstrate how to install it in a circuit, as well as demonstrate how to perform correct and safe measurements.

Hydraulics module – the trainee has the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the basics of hydraulics, delve into the issues of hazards and risks associated with hydraulic work. They will learn the functions of different types of pumps and gain practical skills, how to check the pump on/off pressure, the functions of different types of actuators, different types of valves, sensors, accumulators and how to check and pre-charge them. They will gain practical skills in identifying components carrying oil, operating oil procedures, finding different elements on a hydraulic diagram and demonstrating how to accurately measure hydraulic pressure.

Mechanical module – the training includes topics in the field of knowledge of the main elements of mechanical systems and the basic operation of wind turbines. Operation of braking systems, cooling, lubrication, tilt system. Technicians acquire skills in using hand tightening and measuring tools and the correct use of hydraulic tools for measuring torque and tensioning. Participants in the course learn to identify and manage risks and hazards associated with mechanics. The course also covers the use of various hand and hydraulic tools, as well as the principles of gearbox operation, braking systems, tilting, cooling and lubrication.

Bolt Tightening Module – is of great importance in increasing safety and maintaining quality standards when using electrically powered tools and accessories in the wind sector. Through this comprehensive programme, we provide technicians with invaluable knowledge and skills that not only promote safe and accurate bolting practices, but also cover important aspects such as planning, documentation and review of tasks. Using scenario-based training methods, we ensure that our participants are well prepared to cope with company-specific bolting requirements.

Installation Module – aims to familiarise course participants with all applicable procedures and principles necessary for performing wind turbine installation tasks. It places great emphasis on the safety of themselves and all co-workers during installation work. Participants develop their knowledge of proper storage, maintenance and operation of equipment, avoiding accidents related to dropped objects. They are introduced to safe working practices during lifting operations, as well as the use of electrical/hydraulic and mechanical tools under the supervision of an experienced technician. They learn the correct ways to receive, unload and prepare individual turbine components for assembly, and how to prepare and commission an assembled turbine.

Hazardous Energies Basic Safety Module (HEBS) – The module aims to prepare participants, through theoretical and practical training, to safely work near hazardous energy sources in the wind energy industry and to safely complete assigned tasks.

Each module concludes with a theoretical test, and completion of the module grants a GWO BTT certificate. This certificate is frequently required by employers in the wind energy industry, both onshore and offshore, making the training a valuable stepping stone to career development in this field.

The BTT certificats are permanent and does not need to be renewed.
