  • Psychology of command and control of human behavior – principles of a leader’s behavior, motivation techniques, as well as the analysis of passenger behavior patterns in panic (e.g., searching for loved ones, fleeing to cabins, moving to upper decks). The impact of stress on performance is also discussed.

  • Effective communication in a crisis – the scope covers techniques for establishing and maintaining effective communication (verbal and non-verbal), issuing clear and concise instructions, as well as dealing with language barriers in a multinational environment.

The course program complies with:

  • Section A-V/2 of the STCW Code (paragraph 2)

  • IMO Model Course 1.29

What will you learn on the course?

  • Effectively direct and lead passengers and subordinate crew in sudden maritime emergency situations.

  • Properly apply shipboard emergency procedures and optimize the use of available equipment and human resources.

  • Control your own reactions to excessive stress, and recognize and mitigate symptoms of panic in other members of the rescue team.

  • Manage the crowd by anticipating typical and often irrational passenger reactions (e.g., searching for personal belongings instead of evacuating).

  • Maintain effective communication by issuing clear instructions, including the use of non-verbal methods when voice communication fails.

What does the training look like?

The teaching method includes lectures on crowd psychology and procedures combined with communication and emergency situational assessment exercises (program based on IMO Model Course 1.29). Course completion is based on knowledge verification in the form of a test (for the lecture part) and a demonstration of skills during the exercises.

Where does the training take place and is there parking?

The training takes place in Gdynia at 13A Polska Street. Free parking is located at 6 Chrzanowskiego Street. The barrier code is provided when the course is confirmed by the secretariat staff.
