The Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (other than Fast Rescue Boats) – PSCRB training is intended for seafarers holding a certificate of proficiency in Personal Survival Techniques (PST). During the training, you will learn to safely command and maneuver the ship’s survival craft (liferafts and lifeboats) after launching, as well as effectively use location and radiocommunication equipment in life-threatening situations at sea.

Course program:
- Construction and operation of life-saving appliances – the scope covers the construction, equipment, and release mechanisms of liferafts, lifeboats, and rescue boats, as well as the principles of operation of Marine Evacuation Systems (MES). During the exercises, you will learn to right an inverted liferaft, start and operate boat engines, and row and steer a boat by compass.
- Evacuation and survival procedures – the scope covers the organization of abandoning ship, managing survivors, combating hypothermia, and the principles of cooperation with a rescue helicopter and units in a MOB (man overboard) situation. Exercises focus on practical maneuvering of a lifeboat and rescue boat on the water and coordinating team actions.
- Signaling and first aid – the scope covers the use of radio life-saving appliances (EPIRB, SART, VHF), pyrotechnic distress signals, and the principles of using a first aid kit to provide first aid to survivors. Theoretical and practical training verifies the ability to effectively call for help in conditions of immediate danger.

What will you learn on the course?
- Command a liferaft, lifeboat, and rescue boat during and after the launching procedure, ensuring the full safety of survivors.
- Efficiently operate the engines installed in rescue boats and survival craft, applying appropriate starting procedures and maintenance techniques.
- Effectively command persons in survival craft, assigning tasks on the water and maximizing the chances of survival.
- Use the most modern communication, location, and signaling systems (including EPIRBs and radar transponders/SARTs) to guide shore-based and marine rescue forces.
- Provide medical first aid directly in survival craft, with particular emphasis on preventing and minimizing the effects of hypothermia.
What does the training look like?
Classes are conducted based on the international IMO Model Course 1.23 and emphasize training using physical equipment, such as liferafts, lifeboats, rescue boats, sea anchors, and signaling equipment.
Where does the training take place and is there parking?
Theoretical training takes place in Gdynia at 13A Polska Street. Practical training is organized in Gdynia at the Kutrowe Quay – transport is provided for the trainee by the Maritime School. Free parking is located at 6 Chrzanowskiego Street. The barrier code is provided when the course is confirmed by the secretariat staff.
