Course duration: 1 day

The Refresher training in Personal Survival Techniques (PST) is an updating course for individuals holding a PST certificate who wish to confirm and refresh the skills required in emergency situations at sea. The training covers, among other things, the principles of using life-saving appliances, the organization of abandoning ship, maintaining safety during evacuation, and practical exercises using life-saving equipment.

Requirements:

• A valid identity document (ID card / passport / mObywatel app)
• A valid medical certificate / declaration of good health
• PST certificate (maximum up to 1 year after expiration)
• A Seaman’s Book (6 months of sea service in the last 5 years)
• 1 x photo (3.5 x 4.5 cm)
• A change of clothes

Course program:

• Life-saving appliances and evacuation techniques – the scope covers the analysis of personal and collective life-saving appliances, as well as procedures and techniques for the efficient evacuation of people from the ship’s deck.
• Organization of SAR operations, signaling, and cooperation with a helicopter – the scope covers search principles, rescue techniques for survivors, coordination of actions with rescue and aviation units, and the use of pyrotechnic distress signals and distress alerting equipment.
• Survival training and pool exercises – the scope covers the theoretical principles of survivor survival and intensive practical training in the water. Exercises in this module include, among others, donning a lifejacket in the water, jumping into the water from a height of at least 2.5 m in a lifejacket and an immersion suit, righting an inverted liferaft, boarding a liferaft independently from the water, and donning a helicopter rescue strop.

• IMO Model Course 1.19

What does the training look like?

The refresher training has a highly condensed format. The teaching method is strictly based on the guidelines of the IMO Model Course 1.19. Essential life-saving equipment is used during the classes, including liferafts, lifejackets, immersion suits, and helicopter rescue strops.

Where does the training take place and is there parking?

Theoretical training takes place in Gdynia at 13A Polska Street. Practical training is organized in Gdynia at the Maritime University’s swimming pool – transport is provided for the trainee by the Maritime School. Free parking is located at 6 Chrzanowskiego Street. The barrier code is provided when the course is confirmed by the secretariat staff.
