The Refresher Training for Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (PSCRB) is an essential process that allows you to maintain the validity of your certificates and qualifications, and ensures that seafarers are always prepared to effectively respond to potential hazards and crisis situations at sea. The course renewal procedure aims to refresh and update knowledge and skills that may have changed or evolved since the last certification.

Requirements:

  • A valid identity document (ID card / passport / mObywatel app)

  • A Certificate of Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats (valid or up to one year after expiration)

  • A valid medical certificate

  • A Seaman’s Book (6 months of sea service within the last 5 years)

  • 1 x photo (3.5 x 4.5 cm)

Certificate validity:

  • 5 years

Course program:

  • Regulations and new technological solutions – includes a refresher on STCW legal requirements (including special requirements for passenger ships), duties assigned to lifeboats and rescue boats, and a detailed presentation of the latest design solutions for survival craft.

  • Distress signaling and communication – the scope covers updating knowledge on the means and equipment used for signaling, location, and communication in emergency situations, as well as discussing changes in ITU-R regulations, IMO standards, and national regulations.

  • Exchange of experiences and analysis of rescue operations – methods of preventing hypothermia, principles of cooperation with helicopters, techniques for marshalling liferafts, and recovering survivors with a rescue boat using equipment such as painters and sea anchors.

The course program complies with:

  • The STCW 78 Convention, as amended

  • Section A-VI/2 of the STCW Code and Table A-VI/2-1

  • IMO Model Course 1.23

What will you learn on the course?

  • Properly and safely steer a rescue boat, liferaft, or lifeboat during launching and after launching in open waters.

  • Safely operate engines installed in lifeboats and rescue boats in accordance with the latest technical standards and manufacturers’ instructions.

  • Effectively take charge of survivors on survival craft, minimizing their risk of hypothermia and providing them with necessary first aid.

  • Use modernized location, communication, and signaling equipment in distress situations in accordance with current procedures.

  • Cooperate effectively with rescue helicopters and use modern shipboard equipment to efficiently recover survivors from the water.

What does the training look like?

The teaching method includes lectures presenting market and legal updates, as well as a seminar-style analysis of case studies from maritime practice.

The training takes place in Gdynia at 13A Polska Street. Free parking is located at 6 Chrzanowskiego Street. The barrier code is provided when the course is confirmed by the secretariat staff.
