Course duration: 1 day
The Maneuvering on ships with ASD / AZIPOD propulsion systems course is designed for individuals wishing to acquire or expand their knowledge of ASD (Azimuth Stern Drive) and AZIPOD propulsion systems. These systems are used in ships and offshore platforms for maneuvering and station keeping. The course covers both theoretical issues in this area and practical exercises allowing participants to gain the necessary skills and experience.
Requirements:
- A valid identity document (ID card / passport / mObywatel app)
The course price includes:
- Cost of issuing the certificate / attestation by the Maritime Office / Maritime School
- Coffee / tea
- Free parking
Additional fees:
- Courier delivery of documents (upon request)
Certificate validity:
- Indefinite (No expiration date)
Course program:
The training combines essential hydrodynamic theory with highly intensive simulator practice, covering:
- Technological introduction – discussion of the types of ASD and AZIPOD propulsion systems and their market application. Analysis of the operating principles and main components of these systems (electric motors in pods vs. mechanical gears).
- Operational basics – understanding how the hull behaves when operating thrusters concurrently, counter-rotating, or at various angles.
- Procedures and safety – familiarization with the procedures for daily operation and maintenance of thrusters, as well as rigorous safety rules when working with these systems at sea.
- Emergency simulations – training in procedures to follow in the event of a failure, thruster rotation jam, loss of power (blackout), or other unexpected critical situations during maneuvers.
What will you learn?
By participating in this advanced training, you will acquire maneuvering competencies allowing you to:
- Completely safely and controllably rotate the ship on the spot and precisely move the vessel with a parallel motion to the berth.
- Instantly and effectively stop the ship from full speed (using the rotation of the pod with the thruster instead of a slow reduction in RPM).
- Divide attention and simultaneously, independently operate two azimuth control levers.
- Make quick and accurate corrective decisions, being able to safely maneuver the vessel out of trouble in the event of a partial failure of the control systems.
What does the training look like?
The training focuses on intensive practice. Trainees perform complex maneuvering tasks using dedicated consoles. Scenarios include approaches to the berth, entering locks, and reacting to changing wind, current, or wave conditions.
Where does the training take place and is there parking?
The training takes place in Gdynia at 13A Polska Street. Free parking is located at 6 Chrzanowskiego Street. The barrier code is provided when the course is confirmed by the secretariat staff.
