Course duration: 4 weeks

The Preparatory course for the management level exam in the Deck Department (Chief Mate) is a four-week training preparing graduates of maritime academies for the qualification exam conducted by the Maritime Office. The course is addressed to individuals who have completed appropriate maritime studies at the management level and plan to obtain a Chief Mate’s Certificate of Competency in international shipping.

Requirements:

• A valid identity document (ID card / passport / mObywatel app)

• Completion of maritime studies at the management level entitling the applicant to apply for a Chief Mate’s Certificate of Competency in international shipping

• Knowledge of the rules regarding the validity of maritime academy diplomas — detailed information is provided by the Maritime Office

• An advance payment (deposit) of 1000 PLN – if the course does not take place (e.g., due to an insufficient number of participants), the deposit will be refunded.

IMPORTANT: Documents must be submitted to the Central Maritime Examination Board (CMKE) 21 days before the practical exam date (strict deadline!)

Familiarize yourself with the validity dates of academy diplomas: Ministry of Infrastructure – Information on the deadlines for training documents or passing an exam in the process of obtaining qualification documents by seafarers.

What will you learn on the course?

• Independently and safely maneuver a large seagoing ship in all operational conditions.

• Conduct advanced voyage planning using the full spectrum of navigational equipment, minimizing the risk of collision.

• Effectively manage cargo operations for various types of ships and cargoes, ensuring strict limits regarding ship stability and hull strength.

• Manage human resources, efficiently commanding the crew, resolving crisis situations, and limiting the risks resulting from stress and fatigue.

• Practically apply international maritime law regulations, including SOLAS, MARPOL, and STCW conventions, ensuring safety and environmental protection.

What will I learn? (Exam Preparation) The course aims to prepare participants for the qualification exam for the position of Chief Mate, which covers, among other things, the management of ship operations, safety, crew, as well as elements of navigation and emergency situations.

• You will prepare substantively for the management level qualification exam in the Deck Department (Chief Mate) in international shipping.

• You will understand the principles of managing a seagoing vessel and organizing crew work from an exam perspective.

• You will learn how to use the knowledge acquired while working with navigation and stability simulators to solve exam tasks.

• You will know how to make decisions in situations requiring knowledge of the ship’s operational safety and responding to emergency conditions.

• You will learn how to analyze issues related to navigation, ship maneuvering, and emergency situations in a management context.

What does the training look like?

The training includes classes on navigational bridge simulators (maneuvering), a stability simulator, and lectures on key issues in the field of ship management and deck operations. Classes are also held on weekends, which gives you the opportunity to fit your studies around other commitments.

Where does the training take place and is there parking?

The training takes place in Gdynia at 13A Polska Street. Free parking is located at 6 Chrzanowskiego Street. The barrier code is provided when the course is confirmed by the secretariat staff.
