Course duration: 0,5 day
The GWO Offshore Limited Access training is a concise, highly specialized module prepared exclusively for supervised visits to platforms. This course is based on the knowledge acquired during the Onshore training and aims to prepare participants to behave safely at sea and during transfers, without the need to undergo the full, multi-day GWO Sea Survival course, which is dedicated to full-time technicians.
Requirements:
-
valid identity document (ID card/passport/mObywatel)
-
possession of an active WINDA (Wind Industry Database) ID
-
possession of a GWO Onshore Limited Access certificate
-
swimwear, flip-flops, swimming cap, and a towel
The course price includes:
-
WINDA system registration fee
-
coffee / tea
-
insurance
-
free parking
Additional fees:
-
none
Certificate validity:
-
2 years
Course program
The program expands the competencies from the onshore module with the specifics of the harsh marine environment:
-
Hazards and injury prevention – awareness of specific marine environment risks, including the phenomenon of thermal shock and hypothermia.
-
Personal survival equipment – design, fitting, and verification of marine survival suits and inflatable lifejackets.
-
Safe transfer – procedures for transferring from the deck of a transport vessel (CTV/SOV) to the ladder of the turbine transition piece in rolling seas.
-
Sea survival – practical pool training including, among others, safe jumps into the water from a height, group cooperation, maintaining positions that minimize heat loss, and boarding a life raft.
What will you learn?
By participating in this dedicated module, you will acquire competencies that allow you to:
-
Fully safely and responsibly participate in a supervised visit to an offshore wind turbine during its normal operation.
-
Assume limited responsibility for your own safety in the event of an emergency at sea.
-
Smoothly, stress-free, and completely safely execute a transfer in both directions between a vessel and a wind turbine.
-
Instinctively use a marine survival suit and survive in cold water in case of the need to evacuate the vessel or turbine.
What does the training look like?
The training combines condensed theory with mandatory physical training in the water:
-
Theoretical part: a short introduction explaining the logistical differences between onshore and offshore wind farms, supported by an analysis of transfer procedures.
-
Pool training: the main part of the classes consists of exercises in the pool. Participants, dressed in marine survival suits, familiarize themselves with the operation of a life raft and build basic muscle memory, which in a threatening situation will prevent panic and increase the chances of survival.
Confirmation of course completion
Assessment is carried out by a GWO instructor on a continuous basis. The correctness of the exercises performed during the transfer and during the pool scenarios is verified. Upon successful completion of the module, the participant receives the GWO Offshore Limited Access (OFL) certificate. These qualifications are registered in the global WINDA database and constitute an international “passport” for non-technical staff, allowing for legal visits to offshore wind farms worldwide.
Where does the training take place, and is there parking?
Theoretical training takes place in Gdynia at 13A Polska Street. Practical training is organized at a swimming pool in Gdynia – the trainee is provided with transport by the Maritime School. Free parking is located at 6 Chrzanowskiego Street. The barrier code is provided by the secretariat staff upon confirmation of the course.
