The GWO High Voltage Operations training aims to prepare technical personnel to completely safely navigate and perform routine operations in high voltage zones inside the turbine. The course teaches strict adherence to energy isolation procedures, cooperation with authorized supervisory personnel, and understanding the operating principles of offshore and onshore electrical power infrastructure.

• possession of a GWO BTT Electrical and GWO CoHE Electrical certificate (or equivalent local training in hazardous energy control / safe work with electricity – e.g., our LOTO course)

Course program

The program connects electrical safety regulations with the practical operation of equipment in an advanced way:

• Electrical hazards and safety – analysis of arc flash and electric shock phenomena. Understanding restricted access zones and the impact of high voltage on the human body.

• Turbine HV infrastructure – design and operating principle of key HV elements in the nacelle and tower: gas-insulated switchgear (e.g., in GIS technology), transformers (dry and oil-type), and cable systems.

• Isolation procedures – safe voltage disconnection, verification of the absence of voltage, and physical application of Lock-Out, Tag-Out locks.

• Earthing – the role and methods of correctly applying protective earthing before starting any maintenance work.

• Personal Protective Equipment – selection, pre-use inspection, and proper use of specialized arc flash protective clothing, dielectric gloves, and face shields.

What will you learn?

By participating in this training, you will acquire precise competencies that allow you to:

• Recognize potentially fatal hazards in HV zones and consciously avoid errors during routine visual inspections inside the turbine.

• Fully safely apply isolation and earthing procedures in accordance with international and company procedures of the wind industry.

• Cooperate and communicate correctly with power dispatchers and engineers supervising the wind farm’s electrical power grid.

• Act correctly in emergency situations (e.g., evacuation from an HV zone or responding to an electrical incident involving a co-worker).

What does the training look like?

The training emphasizes absolute procedural rigor:

• Procedure analysis: intensive discussion of electrical diagrams, switching instructions, and rescue procedures based on authentic documentation.

• Practical workshops: trainees work on specialized simulators or safe, de-energized switchgears. They practice donning specialized protective equipment, verifying the absence of voltage with dedicated indicators, and physically carrying out complex switching and locking sequences (LOTO).

Confirmation of course completion

Passing is based on continuous assessment of your theoretical knowledge and absolute accuracy while performing simulated safety procedures on workshop equipment. Successful completion of the module results in obtaining the GWO High Voltage Operations certificate. The qualifications are immediately registered in the global WINDA database, which serves as hard proof of competencies valued by all wind farm developers and operators.

Where does the training take place, and is there parking?

The training takes place in Gdynia at 13A Polska Street. Free parking is located at 6 Chrzanowskiego Street. The barrier code is provided by the secretariat staff upon confirmation of the course.
