The Rating as able seafarer deck is a qualification training programme designed to prepare participants for obtaining the Able Seafarer Deck certificate of competency, in accordance with the requirements of the STCW Convention.

The course is intended for candidates who plan to continue their maritime career and advance within the deck department by gaining qualifications required for the position of Able Seafarer Deck. The training covers both theoretical knowledge and practical aspects related to deck operations, safety procedures, and routine duties performed on board a vessel.

Participants gain an understanding of deck department responsibilities, safe working practices, and cooperation within the ship’s crew, in line with applicable maritime regulations and industry standards.

Entry Requirements

The course is intended for candidates who meet the formal requirements necessary to apply for the Able Seafarer Deck certificate, in accordance with the STCW Convention and national maritime regulations.

In practice, this includes holding basic seafarer qualifications and having appropriate sea service in the deck department, as required by the applicable rules.
Detailed eligibility requirements are determined by the relevant regulations and the Maritime Office.

After the course you will be able to:

1. Understand and apply safe working practices and duties related to the position of Able Seafarer Deck, in accordance with STCW requirements.

2. Perform deck-related tasks and routine operations safely and responsibly on board a vessel.

3. Apply basic knowledge of navigation, navigational equipment, and maritime communication while supporting deck operations.

4. Respond appropriately to emergency situations and apply basic first aid principles on board.

5. Work effectively as part of a ship’s crew and support deck department operations in everyday service.
