Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats – Refresher

Course duration: 1 day

The Refresher Training for Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats enables participants to refresh and confirm their existing knowledge and skills in maritime rescue, which are necessary for effective action in emergency situations at sea. During the one-day training, participants have the opportunity to recall important issues related to the operation of fast rescue boats and conducting rescue operations in various weather conditions.

Requirements:

  • A valid identity document (ID card / passport / mObywatel app)

  • A valid medical certificate / declaration of good health

  • A Proficiency in Fast Rescue Boats certificate (valid or up to one year after expiration) – only Polish certificates are subject to renewal

  • A Seaman’s Book (6 months of sea service within the last 5 years)

  • Swimwear, toiletries, and a T-shirt to wear under the survival suit

  • 1 x photo (3.5 x 4.5 cm)

Certificate validity:

Course program:

  • Introduction, construction, and equipment – updating knowledge on IMO requirements and national regulations, as well as discussing and presenting the latest design solutions and equipment for fast rescue boats. This module is conducted exclusively in the form of theoretical lectures.

  • Use of a fast rescue boat – the scope covers updating knowledge on search patterns, maneuvering, and assessing the readiness of a fast rescue boat in emergency situations, as well as cooperation with a helicopter. Exercises within this module focus on practical maneuvering of a fast rescue boat.

  • Seminar – the scope and exercises in this module are based on the active exchange of participants’ experiences regarding actual operations using life-saving and rescue appliances, as well as distress communication.

The course program complies with:

  • The STCW 78 Convention, as amended

  • Section A-VI/2 of the STCW Code (paragraph 11) and Table A-VI/2-2

  • IMO Model Course 1.24

What will you learn on the course?

  • Understand and familiarize yourself with the latest solutions in the construction, maintenance, repair, and equipping of fast rescue boats.

  • Safely and in accordance with procedures operate appliances and equipment used for launching and recovering fast rescue boats.

  • Efficiently steer a commonly used fast rescue boat during recovery and launching, as well as after it is waterborne.

  • Properly and safely operate the engine of a fast rescue boat.

  • Update the principles of safe cooperation with rescue helicopters during evacuation and rescue operations.

What does the training look like?

The teaching method includes a refresher on the latest legal and technological knowledge (STCW, IMO) combined with boat maneuvering training on the water and the exchange of experiences.

Where does the training take place and is there parking?

Theoretical training takes place in Gdynia at 13A Polska Street. Practical training is organized in Gdynia at the Dalmor quay – transport is provided for the trainee by the Maritime School.

Free parking is located at 6 Chrzanowskiego Street. The barrier code is provided when the course is confirmed by the secretariat staff.
