Course duration: 20 hours

The Preparatory course for the practical exam at the management level in the Engine Department (Second Engineer) is a training designed for individuals preparing for the qualification exam conducted by the Maritime Office. The aim of the course is to systematize knowledge and prepare participants for the practical part of the management level exam in the engine department in international shipping. During the training, topics related to the operation of marine power plant equipment, organization of work in the engine department, resource management, and decision-making in operational and emergency situations are discussed.

Requirements:

• A valid identity document (ID card / passport / mObywatel app)

• Completed qualification course for Second Engineer (management level)

• Knowledge of the rules regarding the validity of maritime academy diplomas — detailed information is provided by the Maritime Office

• An advance payment (deposit) of 1000 PLN – if the course does not take place (e.g., due to an insufficient number of participants), the deposit will be refunded.

IMPORTANT: Documents must be submitted to the Central Maritime Examination Board (CMKE) 21 days before the practical exam date (strict deadline!)

Course program

The training covers the analysis and solving of problems from key areas verified during the practical exam:

• Operation of marine power plants – advanced diagnostics of main engines, power generators, and auxiliary machinery.

• Safety management – interpretation and implementation of emergency procedures, principles of safe ship management (Safety Management System – SMS, ISM Code).

• Organization of work in the engine room – planning maintenance and repair work, watch scheduling, supervision over the engine department crew.

• Emergency situations – analysis and resolution of complex technical problems, power system failures (blackout), fires in the engine room, or control system failures.

• Exam tasks – solving and discussing sample exam papers and scenarios under the supervision of experienced officers and examiners.

• Precisely and substantively justify your technical decisions before the examination board.

What does the training look like?

The training has a workshop and consultative character, with a minimal amount of heory:

• Practical classes – based on the analysis of real operational cases (case studies) and trial problem-solving that officers encounter during the exam before the CMKE.

• Interaction and discussion – emphasis is placed on group work, exchanging professional experience from the sea, and direct consultations with lecturers who are perfectly familiar with the specifics of the Maritime Office’s requirements.

Where does the training take place and is there parking?

The training takes place in Gdynia at 13A Polska Street. Free parking is located at 6 Chrzanowskiego Street. The barrier code is provided when the course is confirmed by the secretariat staff.
