The Medical Care Refresher training is intended for individuals holding a valid certificate of proficiency in Medical Care (or a certificate that expired no more than a year before the start of the course). During the training, you will learn to identify and respond to various medical cases and accidents on board, correctly administer treatments and resuscitation, and proficiently use the ship’s medical chest and life-saving equipment.

Procedures and medical knowledge – includes a refresher on first aid principles, disease prevention, medical regulations, and maintaining proper shipboard medical records. The attached files do not indicate dedicated exercises directly for this module.

Care and treatment – methods of nursing patients depending on the illness, management of poisonings (alcohol, drugs, chemicals), as well as responding to gynecological cases, pregnancies, or childbirth.

Ship’s support and facilities – covers requesting external assistance (medical advice), inspecting the crew’s living and hygiene conditions on board, and managing orders, deliveries, and inspections of medicines and shipboard medical equipment.

What will you learn on the course?

Properly perform the cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) procedure on an adult, and safely and confidently perform defibrillation.

Recognize types of injuries (including fractures, bleeding, thermal and electrical burns, frostbite), properly treat them, and secure a casualty who is in shock.

Identify and provide immediate treatment for abdominal and chest diseases, and take appropriate steps in cases of suspected tropical or sexually transmitted diseases.

Correctly and safely perform gastric lavage (stomach pumping), and effectively counteract the effects of various types of poisonings on board.

Safely position the patient (recovery position) and, as a last resort, accurately recognize the irreversible signs of death and legally pronounce death.
What does the training look like?
The training is conducted in a condensed format. The teaching method includes a refresher of theoretical knowledge regarding anatomy, diagnosing diseases, and the use of equipment, combined with the demonstration and training of physical skills for emergencies. Course completion is based on knowledge verification through a test (for the lecture part) and a demonstration of acquired skills for the practical part (exercises).
Where does the training take place and is there parking?
The training takes place in Gdynia at 13A Polska Street. Free parking is located at 6 Chrzanowskiego Street. The barrier code is provided when the course is confirmed by the secretariat staff.
