The GWO ART Nacelle, Tower & Basement Rescue course is a highly advanced training program for technicians who want (or need, due to employer requirements) to act as wind turbine rescuers. This training teaches how to plan and conduct complex extraction operations from the tightest zones of the turbine. It equips trainees with advanced knowledge of rescue equipment and patient transport systems, minimizing the time needed to hand over the casualty to professional medical services.

*The training is conducted in accordance with the latest GWO Advanced Rescue Training V6 standard.

Course program:

The program is extremely demanding and focuses on advanced rope techniques and rescue operation management:

• Planning and management – risk assessment at the accident scene, prioritizing actions, principles of communication inside the tower, and coordination of activities with the rescue team and external services.

• Advanced rescue equipment – design, selection, and safe application of specialized rescue stretchers, advanced descent devices, and pulley systems for lifting and lowering loads.

• Rescue from the nacelle – techniques for packaging and evacuating a casualty from confined zones around the generator, gearbox, and transformer. Lowering the stretcher with the patient outside the turbine or inside the tower.

• Rescue from the tower and basement – extracting a casualty from the lower, enclosed parts of the turbine, lifting them through hatches to higher levels, and safe transport along the axis of the tower.

• Handling the casualty – securing vital functions during vertical transport and minimizing the risk of aggravating the patient’s injuries (e.g., in the case of spinal injuries).

What will you learn?

By participating in this module, you will acquire expert skills that allow you to:

• Calmly and methodically take command of a complex rescue operation inside the turbine.

• Safely and stably “package” an unconscious co-worker into a rescue stretcher in drastically confined space conditions.

• Build a safe rope system and smoothly lower or lift the stretcher with the patient, avoiding collisions with the structural elements of the turbine.

• Identify anchor points in the nacelle and tower and verify their strength under rescue loads.

What does the training look like?

The training is characterized by an extremely high intensity of physical work:

• Short theory, maximum practice: this module is based almost 100% on action. Theory is explained during preparations for subsequent scenarios.

• Multi-dimensional simulations: participants work in full personal protective equipment. They conduct full-scale rescue operations using heavy training manikins, learning to rely on teamwork and proper body mechanics.

Confirmation of course completion:

Assessment is carried out continuously by certified GWO rescue instructors. The assessment covers technique, team communication, and the correct, safe use of equipment. Successful completion of the simulations results in the issuance of an official GWO ART-N (Nacelle, Tower & Basement Rescue) certificate. The qualifications are promptly registered in the global WINDA database, certifying the highest rescue competencies in the wind industry. The qualifications remain valid for 2 years (after which an ART-N Refresher course is required).

Where does the training take place, and is there parking?

Attendance confirmation takes place in Gdynia at 13A Polska Street. Free parking is located at 6 Chrzanowskiego Street.
