Course description

The ‘Floating  Dry Dock Simulator’ course at the Gdynia Maritime School is an advanced training course designed for seafarers and officers responsible for ship docking operations. Participants will gain practical skills in the safe and effective management of docking operations using one of the most modern simulators available in Europe. The training includes realistic scenarios to develop key competencies under controlled conditions

The course covers topics such as:

• understanding the basic concepts of floating dock stability
• ability to calculate the basic stability parameters of a floating dock and to perform its stability assessment
• an understanding of the equipment and systems used to ballast and de-ballast a floating dock
• understanding the basics of safe operation of the ballast system
• acquainted with the regulations governing the operation and use of floating docks
• acquainted with the methods of calculating the loads on a floating dock and adjusting supports
• plan and carry out the docking procedure on the simulator
• acquiring the ability to detect stability problems during ballasting.
• acquainted with the operation of the stability programme
• experience of the danger situation and the correct reactions of the ballast system operator
