The Shipboard Safety Officer (SOC) course prepares you to perform the duties of a shipboard safety officer, in accordance with STCW requirements (A-II/2 and A-III/2) and industry and international guidelines, including OCIMF VIQ (Chapter 5), IMO 3.11, IMO Resolution A.849(20), IMO MSC-MEPC.3/Circ.2, and ILO MLC 2006 (including Guideline B4.3.6 – investigations; Regulation 5.1.6 – marine casualties). The training focuses on practical tools for on-board safety management, hazard identification, risk assessment, and conducting preventive and investigative actions.

Course program:

• Personal Safety & ISM Code – the scope covers familiarization with industry regulations and exploring the principles of the International Safety Management (ISM) Code. This module allows you to practically understand the obligations arising from international standards (including the strict OCIMF VIQ guidelines or the ILO MLC 2006 convention) and teaches how to build a lasting safety culture among crew members.

• Risk Assessment and Management – the scope covers the methodology of systematic identification of hazards to the ship, cargo, and personnel. Within this block, you will learn how to correctly analyze ship processes, estimate the level of potential operational risk, and accurately select and implement adequate preventive measures minimizing danger while working at sea.

• Accident investigations – the scope covers procedures for responding to adverse events and conducting thorough internal investigations (in accordance with, among others, IMO Resolution A.849(20)).

The course program complies with:

• The STCW 78 Convention, as amended

• Sections A-II/2 and A-III/2 of the STCW Code

• IMO Model Course 3.11

What does the training look like?

The training takes place 100% online and lasts a total of 2 days (importantly – it is very flexible and can be organized upon request even for one person). The teaching method includes lectures on international standards and regulations (based, among others, on IMO Model Course 3.11, IMO resolutions, OCIMF VIQ, and ILO MLC 2006) combined with interactive workshops where specific scenarios and case studies are analyzed. Due to the remote and procedural nature of the classes, the course is based on working with documentation rather than physical equipment. Course completion is achieved through fulfilling the program and active participation in workshop panels, and upon successful completion of the classes, the participant receives a recognized certificate confirming the acquisition of qualifications (“successful completion of training for Shipboard Safety Officer”).

The training takes place in Gdynia at 13A Polska Street. Free parking is located at 6 Chrzanowskiego Street. The barrier code is provided when the course is confirmed by the secretariat staff.
