Advanced Training in Fire Fighting – Refresher

Course duration: 1 day

The Refresher Training in Advanced Fire Fighting is intended for seafarers holding a valid Advanced Fire Fighting certificate (or a certificate that expired no more than a year before the start of the training) and documented 6 months of sea service completed within the last 5 years. During the training, you will update your knowledge of the latest fire extinguishing systems, recall the principles of commanding a rescue operation on board a ship and in port, and refresh your physical skills of being in a smoke-filled zone.

Requirements:

  • A valid identity document (ID card / passport / mObywatel app)

  • A valid Advanced Fire Fighting certificate

  • A Seaman’s Book (6 months of sea service within the last 5 years)

Course program:

  • Prevention and modern fire protection solutions – the scope includes updating knowledge on normative IMO documents, assessing the state of the atmosphere and procedures for entering enclosed spaces, as well as discussing the latest solutions in ship construction and equipment (in accordance with FTP, FSS codes and PN standards). The module is carried out through lectures and exercises.

  • Fire analysis and exchange of experiences – investigating the causes of fires, the methodology of preparing accident reports, and an in-depth analysis of materials from actual fire incidents on ships.

The course program complies with:

  • The STCW 78 Convention, as amended

  • Section A-VI/3 of the STCW Code and Table A-VI/3

  • IMO Model Course 2.03

What will you learn on the course?

  • Efficiently command fire prevention and firefighting operations on board a ship, including effective cooperation with port rescue and firefighting units.

  • Organize and professionally train subordinate fire parties for rescue operations in maritime and port conditions.

  • Perform correct maintenance of shipboard fire installations and equipment.

  • Accurately analyze and investigate the causes of fire accidents and prepare appropriate statements and reports based on them.

  • Exercise proper control and care over persons injured in fires until they are handed over to medical services.

What does the training look like?

The refresher training has a very condensed format. The teaching method includes lectures on prevention and the latest regulations, a seminar-style analysis of case studies, and physical training at the firefighting training ground (smoke chamber). Course completion is based on knowledge verification through a test covering the lecture part and a practical demonstration of skills during exercises in the smoke chamber.

Where does the training take place and is there parking?

The training takes place in Gdynia at 13A Polska Street. Free parking is located at 6 Chrzanowskiego Street. The barrier code is provided when the course is confirmed by the secretariat staff.
