GWO Sea Survival – Refresher

from 555 EUR

Course duration: 1 day

The GWO Sea Survival Refresher training aims to eliminate detrimental professional routine, update knowledge with the latest GWO procedures, and intensively re-practice water survival techniques. The main objective of the course is to restore full confidence and muscle memory when using marine rescue equipment and performing safe transfers on the open sea.

Requirements:

  • valid identity document (ID card/passport/mObywatel)

  • possession of a current (still valid) GWO Sea Survival certificate and an active WINDA ID profile

  • swimwear, flip-flops, swimming cap, and a towel

The course price includes:

  • WINDA system registration fee

  • lunch

  • coffee / tea

  • insurance

  • free parking

Additional fees:

  • none

Certificate validity:

  • 2 years

Course program

The training is highly condensed and focused on practice and the exchange of experiences:

  • Knowledge update and exchange of experiences – discussing maritime incidents from the last two years (case studies), analyzing changes in rescue equipment and offshore regulations.

  • Safe transfer – re-practicing and recalling the rigorous procedures for boarding a wind turbine from transfer vessels (CTV / SOV), taking into account dynamic marine phenomena.

  • Rescue equipment – rapid inspection, correct donning, and leak verification of marine survival suits and lifejackets.

  • Survival in the water – repeated pool training: jumping from a height into the water, righting an overturned life raft, forming group rescue formations protecting against hypothermia and facilitating location by SAR services.

  • Hypothermia and evacuation: Reminding the symptoms of thermal shock and hypothermia, as well as procedures for safely lifting survivors from the water.

What will you learn and remember?

By participating in this one-day refresher module, you will regain full readiness to:

  • Perform routine marine transfers without stress, maintaining maximum vigilance and hazard awareness.

  • Instinctively and instantly don a survival suit under conditions of high stress and limited time.

  • Survive independently in cold seawater using techniques that minimize heat loss.

  • Effectively cooperate with the crew in a life raft and during an airborne search and rescue operation.

What does the training look like?

The refresher course is characterized by a limitation of lectures in favor of direct action:

  • Minimum theory: a short discussion module introducing the practical classes.

  • Practical training: the absolute heart of the course (transport is included in the price). Participants in full work gear and marine suits perform a series of intensive simulations in the water. This training aims to break physical barriers and rebuild appropriate unconditioned reflexes.

Confirmation of course completion

Passing the module is based on continuous assessment. A certified instructor verifies the ability to cope with stress, the correctness of equipment operation, and engagement during pool exercises. Upon successful completion of all scenarios, the participant receives a renewed GWO Sea Survival Refresher certificate. The qualifications are immediately registered in the global WINDA database, which extends your license to work on offshore wind farms for another 24 months.

Where does the training take place, and is there parking?

Theoretical training takes place in Gdynia at 13A Polska Street. Practical training is organized in Gdynia at the Maritime University swimming pool and at the Kutrowe Quay – the trainee is provided with transport by the Maritime School.

Free parking is located at 6 Chrzanowskiego Street. The barrier code is provided by the secretariat staff upon confirmation of the course.
