The High Voltage Safety training (Operation and maintenance of power systems exceeding 1kV) is a training course focused on safe work with high-voltage electrical equipment on ships and in other maritime areas. During the course, participants gain knowledge about the safe handling of electrical equipment and installations, identifying hazards associated with high voltage, and procedures to follow in the event of failures or accidents.

Course program:

  • High-voltage marine systems and dielectrics – the scope covers the analysis of transmission and distribution systems, high-voltage components on ships, as well as ionization processes and the dielectric strength (breakdown voltage) of gaseous, liquid, and solid dielectrics. The module is conducted in the form of lectures.

  • Overvoltage hazards and system protection – includes general characteristics of surge waves, the generation of internal overvoltages (e.g., resonance, earth-fault) and external overvoltages (e.g., lightning discharges). Principles of lightning protection and insulation coordination are discussed.

  • Measurements, testing, and operation – the scope covers the use of high-voltage measuring equipment, test voltage sources, and conducting basic electrical strength tests of marine insulation.

The course program complies with:

  • The STCW 78 Convention, as amended

  • Sections A-III/2 and A-III/6 of the STCW Code

  • Tables A-III/2 and A-III/6

  • IMO Model Courses: the program implements the guidelines contained in IMO Model Courses 7.02 and 7.08

What does the training look like?

The teaching method includes specialized lectures on the physics of dielectrics and electronics, as well as practical testing and measurement training based on the requirements of Section A-III/6 of the STCW Code.

Where does the training take place and is there parking?

The training takes place in Gdynia at 13A Polska Street. Free parking is located at 6 Chrzanowskiego Street. The barrier code is provided when the course is confirmed by the secretariat staff.
