Course Description

The Auxiliary Level Engine Department Course – Watchkeeping Motorman is a qualification training programme designed to prepare participants to perform the duties of a Watchkeeping Motorman in the engine department of a vessel, in accordance with the requirements of the STCW Convention.

The course aims to provide the knowledge and basic practical skills necessary for safe operation and support of machinery in the ship’s engine room. The training covers the fundamentals of ship machinery operation, organisation of work in the engine department, safety procedures, and effective cooperation within the engineering team.

During the course, participants also become familiar with basic operational procedures related to engine room equipment, monitoring machinery performance, and responding to potential technical or emergency situations.

Entry Requirements

The course is intended for candidates who meet the formal requirements specified by the STCW Convention and national maritime regulations for obtaining the Watchkeeping Motorman qualification.

Detailed requirements regarding sea service and necessary documentation are defined by the Maritime Office.

After the course you will be able to:

1. Perform basic duties of a Watchkeeping Motorman in the engine department.

2. Assist engineering officers during engine room watchkeeping and routine operational tasks.
