The Auxiliary Level Deck Department Course – Watchkeeping Seafarer is a qualification training programme designed to prepare participants to perform the duties of a Watchkeeping Seafarer in the deck department, in accordance with the requirements of the STCW Convention.

The course provides the knowledge and basic practical skills necessary to safely carry out watchkeeping duties on board a vessel. Training focuses on lookout responsibilities, basic navigational tasks, deck operations, and proper response to emergency situations.
The programme also covers safe working practices, organisation of deck department duties, and effective cooperation within the ship’s crew.

Upon completion of the course, participants are prepared to continue the qualification process required for the Watchkeeping Seafarer position.

Entry Requirements

The course is intended for candidates who meet the formal requirements specified by the STCW Convention and national maritime regulations for the Watchkeeping Seafarer qualification.
Detailed requirements regarding sea service and documentation are defined by the Maritime Office.

After the course you will be able to:

1. Perform basic watchkeeping duties in the deck department in accordance with safety procedures.

2. Assist the officer of the watch by maintaining a proper lookout and carrying out assigned deck tasks.

3. Carry out routine deck operations safely and responsibly.

4. Respond appropriately to emergency situations on board by following established procedures.

5. Work effectively as part of a ship’s crew and support daily deck department operations.
